Swati Madan MSc ANutr

Registered Nutritionist

Swati Madan has been practicing nutrition and general consultation for the last 10 years. There are many conditions that require unique recommendations and thorough consultation, be it diabetes, hayfever, obesity, digestive issues or hypothyroidism. What sets Swati apart from other commercial institutions is that her program is based on holistic nutrition where all the facets of health – eating, exercise and general wellbeing are addressed and treatment plans are devised using functional medicine, nutritional medicine and Ayurveda protocols. She can tailor a bespoke plan to set and achieve your health goals and help find your balance physically and mentally. Involved as an active member of the Nutrition Society, she enjoys investing her time on keeping herself abreast with the latest research and guidelines so she can help her clients achieve their appropriate lifestyle journeys.

She reminisces “I started working within NHS as a part of Dietetics team where I was involved in providing training to health care professionals and dietary and lifestlye advice to NHS patients on weight loss, nutritional requirements during pregnancy, Type 2 Diabetes and maintenance of nutritional status.

I went on to pursue MSc in Human Nutrition from University of Chester. I am also a registered member of the Association for Nutrition (AFN), which is the regulatory body that accredits the Graduate and Post Graduate courses in Nutrition within UK and is subject to strict codes of conduct, standards and continuing professional development. Upon completion of the course, I started working as a Nutritionist for Danone for its leading brands including Aptamil and Cow & Gate providing consultation to parents, parents-to-be and healthcare professionals on early life nutrition.

Deep down, I still wasn’t satisfied and wanted to explore the spectrum of education this field has to offer. Also, I had always wanted to learn more naturopathic ways of dealing with health issues. Hence, I went on to study Functional Medicine. I take pride in having completed the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) AFMCP™-UK training and am currently pursuing certification with the IFM. I also started studying about Ayurveda as I wanted to incorporate this ancient healing system in my treatment protocols along with more modern scientific systems since I had grown in an environment where this therapeutic medicine was used for prevention as much as for healing”.

My consultancy practices are anchored on unravelling and eradicating the core imbalances in your physical or mental health. I do not believe in offering textbook solutions to your dietary requirements, but rather provide evidence-based tips to make the best dietary and lifestyle choices and help you achieve optimal health.

My areas of specialisation include weight loss, hay fever, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, hypothyroidism, digestive issues, metabolic detox, ante natal and post natal nutrition.

As a licensed XPERT Diabetes and XPERT Weight Management Educator I also work closely with GPs and corporates to provide Diabetes Prevention and Weight Loss programs to their patients and employees.

My Story

Hypothyroidism since the birth of my first child in 2006.

I suffered from severe SPD during my pregnancy which even made me immobile during my last trimester to the extent that I had to be hospitalised for the last two months. It was during this period, when in one of my blood tests it was confirmed that I had underactive thyroid gland. I was devastated and worried that I would pass this on to my baby.

Fortunately, my baby was born healthy and happy. I carried on suffering from symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, dry skin, hair loss and depression for 9 years until I came across functional medicine. I started doing lot of research in this area and went on to pursue further courses in this area and starting applying the principles myself. This has helped me immensely and I do not suffer from any of the above-mentioned symptoms anymore.

My son also suffered from seasonal allergies since the age of 6. He used to get really bad hayfever symptoms each year. He was put on anti-histamines by the doctors to manage his symptoms. It used to give him temporary relief but at the same time started affecting his studies due to the anti histamine medication which made him drowsy. I then started applying the functional medicine and Ayurveda protocols on him including elimination diet, gut repair and restore and good quality sleep. It made a huge difference to his symptoms within weeks and now he does not suffer from this condition anymore.

My approach

I believe in working together with you to help you achieve your health goals. Through detailed diet and lifestyle questionnaires, assessments and your detailed medical history I like to investigate the underlying cause of the problem and not just the present symptoms and the condition. In this approach, I will be using my knowledge and experience around nutrition, functional medicine and ayurveda to find the best possible solution to bring your body back into balance.

My programmes will work to help your body to perform different functions at its optimal such as strengthening the immune system, supporting the digestive function, balancing blood sugar levels and enhancing the body’s natural detoxification pathways.
